We are proud to announce that in November 2019, PDS Group was awarded the annual UDIA Consultant’s Excellence Award!

UDIA confirmed that they received a record-breaking number of Award entries last year and that the outstanding calibre of submissions indicate that Victoria’s industry has a deep respect for design, development, innovation, sustainability and, most importantly, delivering high quality projects that meet the needs of current and future Victorians.

This particular Award was designed to recognise a specialist Consultant who demonstrates innovative and problem-solving practices and initiatives where there is a specific development challenge on a project. It recognises standout Consultants who support the development industry.

PDS Group’s work on Aurora Melbourne Central (“Aurora”) was identified and assessed for this Award; we are absolutely delighted and agree that Aurora is a remarkable project where our client’s specific requirements were satisfied through PDS Group’s problem-solving expertise, tenacity and dedicated project management team.

Aurora is unique!  Not only is it the tallest building in Melbourne’s Central Business District “CBD”, Aurora’s design, location and shared amenities foster its key place within Melbourne’s bustling and cosmopolitan CBD community of workers, students, shoppers and travellers.  Aurora is the only building in the southern hemisphere to have direct access to public transport via a connection to Melbourne Central’s train station below.

Aurora is a distinctive building.  The  residential accommodation component had to overcome many and varied challenges that go with building in the CBD (particularly as it sits almost on top of one of the key train stations within the new Melbourne Metro train line).  Parts of the building required redesign due to the train station component, which presented significant issues that necessitated careful resolution.  PDS Group’s dedicated project management team worked closely with the Melbourne City Council and the builders to ensure the building was completed to specific design requirements and standards that enabled access to the station throughout the construction phase while, at the same time, minimising impacts on surrounding areas and businesses.  As the building opened in stages and residents took possession at different times it was important to ensure minimal disruption to those occupants already living in Aurora.

PDS Group is proud to have been involved with this innovative project since 2013.  Our team expertly navigated the challenges of multiple stakeholders, including public transport, heritage and planning authorities to deliver this mixed use 92-level tower featuring approximately 950 residential apartments, a serviced apartment facility with 252 rooms, an extensive retail offering, commercial offices, private gymnasiums and pools, wellness facilities, a private cinema as well as a number of other amenities.

The challenges faced by Aurora and its successful resolution lead the judges Awarding PDS Group the Consultant’s Award of 2019.

Andrew Buckmaster (Director – VIC) had the honour of accepting the award at UDIA’s Awards for Excellence Gala Lunch at Crown Palladium and described the win as a testament to the quality of service we provide on our projects.

We would like to acknowledge the expertise, diligence and exceptional client focussed team at PDS Group, along with our partner consultants Slattery, Elenberg Fraser, Meinhardt, WSP, Gardner Group, Thomson Greer, Colliers, Property Settlement Solutions, contractor Probuild and many others who joined with us to work tirelessly on Aurora.
